If you haven't seen my face enough lately, check out the October 2011 issue of City Arts Magazine...I'm on the cover, along with 11 other musicians and artists who are participating in this year's City Arts Fest.
My band Midday Veil recently got home from our second western US tour in less than 4 months. It's good to be home for now, but we managed to play a bunch of fun shows this year—including a performance on KEXP's Audioasis, which may be streamed from the archive here—and put out a new release: the live improvised EP, Subterranean Ritual II which may be ordered as a limited edition cassette from Translinguistic Other Recordings or streamed in its entirety for free on Bandcamp. We also put out a new video for the song "Anthem," created during a residency at the Experimental Television Center in Owego, NY.
Midday Veil is going back into the studio at the end of this month to record our second LP, which is being produced by Randall Dunn. We have a few Seattle and Portland performances scheduled through the end of the year, after which we'll be taking a hiatus from performing for a few months while we work on the record. (Full performance schedule here.)
2011 has also been an eventful year for my record label Translinguistic Other, which released the deluxe double LP compilation Portable Shrines Magic Sound Theatre Vol. I on Record Store Day of this year, as well as a handful of cassette releases. I've also been keeping busy with collaborative art projects and curating exhibitions for TaRLA Transdimensional Art Portal, the art gallery I opened in my house in August 2011. This fall I contributed an essay to LxWxH, a periodical series of limited edition containing original artwork curated by Sharon Arnold, wrote a poem for the inaugural issue of Free Sheep Foundation's zine Headless Hunter and contributed artwork to the most recent issue of Ong Ong.
Earlier this year, the Richmond, VA-based music blog Revolt of the Apes interviewed me about Midday Veil and my other creative projects. Read our conversation here.
As always, my blog Translinguistic Other is the spot for up-to-date info about happenings and events. I'm also on Twitter. Thanks for your interest!
